SHORT FILMS SCREENING AND DISCUSSION May 2005
A passionate filmmaker, Chui Mui has been an active participant in the Malaysian indie film scene. She has produced and directed a number of short films, some of which have traveled to different festivals including Rotterdam, Manchester, Singapore, Bangkok and Cork. She had also produced Chemman Chaalai, a Malaysian Tamil film.
In July 2004, she conducted a video and film workshop at Interfaces -Special New Media Art Event in Bangkok organized by Raffles La Salle Intl (Bangkok). She has had a hand in many Malaysian critical successes such as Ho Yuhang's Sanctuary (as an editor), which had Special Mention in both Pusan and Rotterdam, and Amir Muhammad's "The Big Durian" which screened in Sundance, Singapore, Amsterdam and Yamagata.
In 2005 her short "A Tree In Tanjung Malim" (Malaysia 2004, 24 minutes) - which will be screened at Jakarta International Film Festival (9-18 December 2005) as part of the S-Express section - won second prize in Oberhausen.
